That evening, troopers were investigating another car crash on Route 280 at Exit in East Orange in the left lane, Jeffrey Lebron, a spokesman for the New Jersey State Police said. Two unoccupied marked trooper vehicles were parked in the left lane behind the crash, with their emergency lights activated, Lebron said.
At 9:55 p.m., a Jeep Grand Cherokee struck the back of one of the trooper cars, causing it to hit the other state police vehicle, Lebron said. The driver and occupants of the Jeep were transported to an area hospital with moderate injuries, Lebron said.
The crash remains under investigation, Lebron said.
